Frequently asked questions.

My dog isn’t perfectly trained—can we still do a session?

Absolutely! Your dog doesn’t need to be perfectly trained to get beautiful photos. While basic commands like sit and stay are helpful, they’re not required. We’ll work at your dog’s pace and keep the session fun and relaxed—some of the best shots come from the unexpected moments anyway. As long as your dog isn’t aggressive or a danger to others, we’re good to go!

Does my dog need to be good off-leash?

Not at all! I often remove leashes in editing for a clean, natural look. Safety always comes first, so if we’re in a public space or your dog isn’t fully reliable off-leash, keeping them leashed is absolutely fine.

Please note: while leashes can usually be edited out, harnesses are trickier. For best results, I recommend using a well-fitted collar for the session.

What if my dog is shy or nervous?

You’re in good hands. I have a strong background in dog behavior and training, which plays a huge role in how I approach pet photography. I understand body language, stress signals, and how to help your dog feel comfortable. Whether they’re shy, energetic, or just unsure about the camera, I’ll meet them where they’re at.

While I always bring treats, you’re more than welcome to bring your dog’s favorite snacks or a toy—they can be great tools for comfort and motivation. My sessions are flexible, and I’m happy to take the extra time needed to help your pup settle in. We’ll keep it low-pressure, relaxed, and focused on making it a positive experience for both of you.

Where and when do you hold your sessions?

All sessions take place outdoors, using natural light in locations that highlight the beauty of the Central Coast. Popular spots include local beaches, trails, vineyards, and parks—anywhere in San Luis Obispo County.

If you have a favorite location outside the area, I’m happy to travel! Just note that a travel fee may apply for sessions beyond San Luis Obispo County.

Session timing is typically based on the best light—usually early morning or golden hour in the evening.

What should I do to prepare for my dog’s photo session?

Bring your dog’s favorite treats or toy to help hold their attention. If they’re high-energy, a short walk beforehand can help them focus.

When will I receive the photos?

You’ll receive your fully edited gallery within 2–3 weeks of your session.

What if the weather doesn’t cooperate?

We’ll keep an eye on the forecast in the days leading up to your session. If the weather isn’t looking great, we’ll reschedule to a better day—no extra charge.
